In a <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2012/01/24/movies/awardsseason/2012-Oscars-Nominees.html" title="photo slide show of the nominated films">field of nine best-picture nominees</a>
— the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pegged the number on a
sliding scale after experimenting for two years with a list of 10 —
“The Help,” about race relations; “War Horse,” about a fighting horse;
“Moneyball,” about the business side of baseball; and two surprises,
“The Tree of Life” and “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” all
found a place. But none showed quite as strong as the leaders.<br />
<br />
And
a host of erstwhile contenders finally fell away, at least in the race
for best picture at the 84th Academy Awards ceremony, set for Feb. 26.
The full list is <a href="http://oscar.go.com/nominees">here</a>. (To fill out your ballot and compete with friends on NYTimes.com, <a href="http://oscars.nytimes.com/ballot/">click here</a>.)<br />
<br />
The
also-rans included Jason Reitman’s “Young Adult,” George Clooney’s
“Ides of March” and a half-dozen other films that were shaken out by a
tough round of Hollywood guild awards and a revised Oscar balloting
system. <br />
<br />
<div class="inlineModule">

By the numbers, this year’s most heavily nominated contenders were
“Hugo” with 11, followed closely by “The Artist” with 10. “Moneyball”
and “War Horse” each had 6 nominations, while “The Descendants,” though
strong in the acting, writing and directing categories, had only 5.<br />
<br />
A
large stack of nominations can sometimes be the Academy’s way of
acknowledging a very good film that hasn’t really won its heart.<br />
<br />
Last
year “True Grit” had 10 nominations, including best picture, and ranked
just below “The King’s Speech,” the eventual winner, but took home
nothing on Oscar night. “The Aviator” and “Brokeback Mountain” were the
most heavily nominated films in their years but weren’t winners.<br />
<br />
The
shockers this year included the fact that the best picture category
stretched all the way to 9 of a possible 10 nominees. Oscar-watchers <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/23/what-will-be-nominated-even-the-oscarologists-arent-entirely-sure/"> predicted widely </a>that the new counting methods would yield a narrower field.<br />
The biggest surprise in the group was almost surely <a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/gst/movies/msearch.html?query=extremely+loud+%26+incredibly+close&x=12&y=11">“Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,”</a>
a drama revolving around the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
The film had been snubbed in one after another of the pre-Oscar awards,
though its backers, including the producer Scott Rudin, insisted that a
devoted core of admirers might turn the film, directed by Stephen
Daldry, into a best picture contender.<br />

<br />
In
a seeming disconnect, only one best actress nominee, Viola Davis of
“The Help,” appeared in a film nominated for best picture. Other
nominees in the category were <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/16/and-on-this-floor-a-cross-cultural-whos-who/">Glenn Close</a>, for playing a woman who played a man in “Albert Nobbs”; <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/15/thatcher-vs-nobbs-round-2-dueling-premieres/">Meryl Streep</a>, as Margaret Thatcher, both in and past her prime, in “The Iron Lady”; <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/05/movies/awardsseason/rooney-mara-and-meryl-streep-on-preparing-for-their-roles.html">Rooney Mara</a>, as the damaged soul in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”; and Michelle Williams, as Marilyn Monroe in “My Week With Marilyn.”<br />
<br />
Ms.
Streep’s nomination cemented her position as the most-nominated actor
in Academy Awards history, with 17 nominations — far more than the
next-most nominated, Jack Nicholson and Katharine Hepburn, with 12 each.
<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/25/movies/for-iron-lady-armor-added-to-streeps-wardrobe.html?scp=5&sq=meryl%20streep&st=cse">Ms. Streep</a>
last won an Oscar in 1983, for best actress for “Sophie’s Choice,” and
she was previously best supporting actress in 1980, for “Kramer vs.
Kramer.”<br />
<br />
Among the best actor nominees, Mr. Clooney (“The
Descendants”), Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”) and Brad Pitt (“Moneyball”)
appeared in films that have now edged within reach of a best picture
Oscar. Demian Bichir, who played an illegal immigrant gardener in “A
Better Life,” and Gary Oldman, a spy hunter in “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier,
Spy,” were also nominated.<br />
Snubs on the actors list included <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/20/a-word-from-the-j-edgar-contingent/">Leonardo DiCaprio</a>
for “J. Edgar,” and Michael Fassbender for “Shame.”<br />
<br />
Both films sizzled
into the season amid supercharged publicity but wound up with no
nominations in the major categories.<br />
<br />
Similarly, “Bridesmaids,” a
popular favorite whose cast of female comics was nominated for an
ensemble award from the Screen Actors Guild, fell flat with just two
major nominations, one for Melissa McCarthy, as best supporting actress,
and another for an original screenplay written by Kristen Wiig and
Annie Mumolo.<br />

<br />
Other supporting actress nominations went to Bérénice Bejo for “The Artist”; both <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/28/movies/jessica-chastain-of-the-help-and-the-tree-of-life.html?scp=3&sq=%22jessica%20chastain%22&st=cse">Jessica Chastain</a> and <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/05/when-minny-met-talley/">Octavia Spencer</a> for “The Help”; and Janet McTeer for “Albert Nobbs.”<br />
<br />
Supporting actor nominees were <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/18/kenneth-branagh-star-struck/">Kenneth Branagh</a> for “My Week With Marilyn”; Nick Nolte for “Warrior”; Jonah Hill for “Moneyball”; Christopher Plummer for “Beginners”; and <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/09/max-von-sydow-on-not-speaking-and-that-chess-game/">Max von Sydow</a> for “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.”<br />
<br />
Conventional
wisdom among Hollywood’s Oscar campaigners says the best director
nominations help to identify the real contenders for best picture by
culling out movies whose filmmakers did not quite make the cut. By that
standard, “The Help,” a vastly popular movie with Oscar-friendly themes —
about racial bias and conciliation — has a problem, as its director,
the relative newcomer Tate Taylor, was snubbed. So was Steven Spielberg,
as the director of “War Horse,” another best picture nominee. <br />
<br />
Instead, the directing nominations went to Michel Hazanavicius for “The Artist”; <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/13/movies/alexander-paynes-new-film-the-descendants.html?scp=2&sq=alexander%20payne&st=cse">Alexander Payne</a>
for “The Descendants”; Woody Allen for “Midnight in Paris”; and Martin
Scorsese for “Hugo,” along with Terrence Malick for “The Tree of Life.”
Only Mr. Hazanavicius has not been previously nominated in the category.<br />
<br />
<div class="w190 right">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><img alt="Martin Scorsese with his Golden Globe award for best director for his film, "Hugo," which received nominations for a number of awards including best director and best picture." height="238" id="100000001308214" src="http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2012/01/25/arts/24scorsese/24scorsese-articleInline.jpg" width="190" /><span class="credit"> </span></span></div>

Scorsese with his Golden Globe award for best director for his film,
“Hugo,” which received nominations for a number of awards including best
director and best picture</span>.</span></div>
<br />
Mr. Scorsese, named best
director in 2007 for “The Departed,” had perhaps the warmest reception
of anyone at the Golden Globes this month when he received an award for
directing “Hugo” to an outpouring of admiring applause.<br />
<br />
Mr. Allen,
by contrast, did not appear to pick up his Globe for writing “Midnight
in Paris,” so no one can say whether he too would have set off the kind
of Globes-night enthusiasm that foretold an Oscar win for Jeff Bridges,
another Hollywood favorite, in 2010.<br />
<br />
In Tuesday’s nominations the
surprises included a rare rebuff of Pixar and its chief creative
officer, John Lasseter. “Cars 2,” which Mr. Lasseter directed, was not
among the animation nominees, which in the past have been dominated by
Pixar films like “Ratatouille,” “Wall-E” and “The Incredibles.<br />
<br />
Rival
DreamWorks Animation had two animated nominees, “Kung Fu Panda 2” and
“Puss in Boots.” Also nominated were “Rango,” from Paramount Pictures,
and “A Cat in Paris” and “Chico & Rita,” both from abroad.<br />
<br />
The
snubs included “The Adventures of Tintin,” an ambitious,
performance-capture film directed by Mr. Spielberg and produced in
partnership with Peter Jackson. It had qualified for consideration in
the animation category but was overlooked — perhaps an indication that
the Academy’s animators are not eager to embrace a hybrid form that
combines live action with computer techniques.<br />
<br />
As has usually been
the case in recent years, no foreign-language nominee has found a wide
audience in the United States. The nominees in that category are
“Bullhead,” from Belgium; “Footnote,” from Israel; “In Darkness,” from
Poland; Monsieur Lazhar,” from Canada; and “A Separation,” from Iran.
“Footnote,” “In Darkness” and “A Separation” are all backed in the
United States by Sony Pictures Classics, one of the few domestic
distributors that still focuses on subtitled films.<br />
<br />
The year’s
documentary selections — “Hell and Back Again,” “If a Tree Falls: A
Story of the Earth Liberation Front,” “Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory,”
“Pina” and “Undefeated” — are the last under an old set of rules that
allowed very small groups within the Academy’s 157-member documentary
branch to filter their choices through a selection process that will now
be open to wider input and may lean toward choices that have been more
widely seen.<br />
<br />
Among companies, a big winner was Sony Pictures,
which had at least 21 nominations for films from both its major studio
and its Sony Pictures Classics art-house division. Those nominees
included “Midnight in Paris” and “Moneyball” in the best picture
category, and a number of nominations for “The Girl With the Dragon
Tattoo” and “A Separation.” Both Paramount and the Weinstein Company had
more than a dozen nominations each, and Disney — though it hasn’t been
an Oscar powerhouse of late — had at least 11 nominations, including
those for “War Horse” and “The Help,” which were made by its affiliate,
DreamWorks.<br />
<br />
Among the year’s screenplay nominations were at least
two surprises, “A Separation,” the Iranian foreign-language nominee, by
Asghar Farhadi about family tensions, and “Margin Call,” an indie drama,
written by J. C. Chandor, about the financial meltdown.<br />
<br />
While 9
of the top 10 films at the domestic box office last year were sequels —
an unprecedented alignment — only a handful of such follow-up films made
an impression on the Academy. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
Part 2,” the year’s best-selling film, with more than $1.3 billion in
worldwide ticket sales, was nominated only for its art direction, makeup
and visual effects, despite an aggressive billboard and radio campaign
here that highlighted its awards potential.<br />
<br />
The Academy’s
challenge this year is to win over viewers who have not yet warmed to
the movies that will be on display when the ceremony is broadcast on
ABC. Among the best picture nominees, only “The Help” has crossed the
$100 million mark at the domestic box office (where it amassed almost
$170 million in North American ticket sales and just $36 million
elsewhere).<br />
<br />
If the movies lack drawing power, the Oscar host,
Billy Crystal, is at least known for having presided over some of the
Academy’s most heavily viewed ceremonies, including a 1998 show. That
one ran an epic three hours and 47 minutes but drew a record 57.3
million viewers, as “Titanic” was named best picture. Last year’s
ceremony, with hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway, and more than 30
minutes shorter, drew only about 37.6 million viewers.<br />
<br />
Mr. Crystal, whose screen appearances have been few of late, stepped in after Eddie Murphy<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/10/movies/eddie-murphy-drops-out-of-oscars-telecast.html"> dropped out</a> last November, following the sudden resignation of the Hollywood bad-boy <a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/person/231725/Brett-Ratner?inline=nyt-per">Brett Ratner</a> as one of the show’s producers.<br />
<br />
Mr.
Ratner had caused a stir for some sex talk on the radio and for using
an anti-gay slur at a public appearance in Los Angeles. He was quickly
replaced by Brian Grazer, a veteran film producer who has largely
refrained from public discussion of his plans for the show, in an effort
to preserve some surprise in the proceedings.</div>

Berni o Luis Felipe Noé.<br /><br />
Documents of 20th-Century Latin American and Latino Art” es el nombre
arte latinoamericano.<br />

Aniversario</h3>
<h2>
<i>Hace
<h5>

Warhol,
Lichtenstein y Rauschenberg reconocieron su influencia. Spielberg
<br />
(1976).<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
sobrenaturales.
<br />
<br />
and the Secret of Literature (Granta, 2006), el escritor británico Tom
Flaubert, Marlowe o Brecht.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
tonnerres! Tintin c’est moi!<br />

The orchestra has also been conducted by many great musicians,
including Herbert von Karajan and Simon Rattle. In this concert, General
Music Director of the city of Cologne Markus Stenz conducts the
orchestra for the first time. In the several weeks of rehearsals he had
with the 14- to 19-year-old instrumentalist, he has developed a
fascinating programme which could perhaps be given the title “dream
worlds”. The main work is Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, a maze of
constantly changing emotions and moods. The famous Adagietto in
particular is unmistakably dreamy, with Gustav Mahler giving voice to
his newly kindled love for Alma Schindler, who was later to become his
wife.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 15px;">
This work is complemented by Detlev Glanert’s <em>Insomnium</em>,
subtitled “Adagio for large orchestra,” which was given its premiere in
2010 by the Munich Philharmonic and Christian Thielemann. With its rich
string cantilenas, there are similarities to the slow movements of late
Romanticism. But just as in a dream, nothing is constant and everything
is possible, when orchestral attacks and grotesque musical figures
intervene, as if someone is jolted awake from sleep.</div>

Order another corsage for “Bridesmaids” because it’s going to the party. The <a href="http://www.producersguild.org/">Producers Guild</a> chose the comedy as one of its 10 best films of the year, possibly advancing its <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/21/how-bridesmaids-could-get-a-best-picture-nomination/">standing</a>
with the Academy on the road to Oscar. “The Ides of March,” George
Clooney’s political thriller, also got a nod, another boost following <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/15/surprise-the-golden-globe-nominators-like-stars">several Golden Globe nominations</a>.
“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” which so far has been a longer shot
according to most Academy Awards watchers, made the list, too. The other
films <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/03/producers-guild-releases-its-nominations/">the Producers Guild chose </a>are the expected bunch: “The Artist,” “The Descendants,” “The Help,” “Moneyball,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Hugo” and “War Horse.”<br />
<br />
Left
off the list was artier fare like “The Tree of Life” and “Melancholia”
and blockbuster franchises like the final installment of the “Harry
Potter” series. (The winners will be announced Jan. 21.)<br />
<div class="inlineModule">

The
guild has traditionally been a good barometer of Oscar best picture
winners. (It does not nominate actors or directors; its awards go only
to the producers of each film.) In 2010 it presaged the eventual triumph
of “The Hurt Locker,” picking it as the top film and surprising many
who thought it would reward the bigger box office of “Avatar.” Last
season the guild foreshadowed the Academy too, picking “The King’s
Speech.” But this year may be a different story, since the producers
stuck with 10 nominees, while Academy members may nominate from 5 to 10.
With the producers behind it and a critical best ensemble nomination
from the <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/14/a-closer-look-at-the-actors-picks/">Screen Actors Guild</a>, “Bridesmaids” may have a good shot to make the Oscar list, since actors make up the biggest branch of the Academy.<br />
<br />
Following the <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/race/oscars-animated-features-deadline-255491">Academy’s lead</a>,
the Producers Guild also returned to five nominees for best animated
film: “The Adventures of Tintin,” “Cars 2,” “Kung Fu Panda,” “Puss in
Boots” and “Rango.” (The documentary nominees, announced earlier, can be
found <a href="http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/02/producers-guild-offers-its-documentary-nominations/">here</a>.)<br />
<br />
No
matter the outcome, it will already be a pretty good night for Steven
Spielberg. He’s a double nominee, for “War Horse” and “The Adventures of
Tintin,” and the recipient of the David O. Selznick Achievement Award.</div>

<strong>Cold Weather</strong> <br />
<em>Directed By Aaron Katz</em> <br />
Like many of today’s best American independent filmmakers, Aaron Katz
makes a virtue of modesty. His first two features, “Dance Party USA” and
<a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/391481/Quiet-City/overview">“Quiet City,”</a>
founding works of the mumblecore quasi-movement, are no-budget
immersions in the ambivalent lives of their young protagonists. But Mr.
Katz’s diffidence is deceptive. Beneath the laid-back drift of his
movies are real ambition and depth, a poetic sense of place and a
delicate grasp of character. <br />
Initially at least, his third feature, “Cold Weather,” calls to mind
other recent quarter-life dramas of indecision and gentle
self-absorption. Doug (Cris Lankenau, above, with Robyn Rikoon), a
forensic science dropout and Sherlock Holmes buff, has moved in with his
sister, Gail (Trieste Kelly Dunn ), in Portland, Ore. (Mr. Katz’s
hometown). But just as the film is beginning to sketch the dynamics
between these adult siblings, odd elements creep in, as if from another
movie: a vanished femme fatale, an abruptly evacuated motel room, a
missing suitcase of money, a eureka moment in a library, clues leading
to a sleazy Web site and what may be the only palm tree in Portland,
even a stakeout and a chase. <br />
Down to its title “Cold Weather” acknowledges that the romance of place
is central to the appeal of detective fiction. (Think of Holmes’s London
or Philip Marlowe’s Los Angeles.) Andrew Reed’s resourceful
cinematography soaks in the atmospheric gloom of the Pacific Northwest,
and Keegan DeWitt’s striking pizzicato score enhances the lightly
ominous mood. <br />
“Cold Weather” thrives on the strange tension and the even stranger
harmony between mumblecore naturalism and genre artifice. There’s an
element of self-consciousness to the mystery plot — Doug procures a
Holmesian pipe as a thinking aid (though he forgets to get tobacco) —
but Mr. Katz also takes it seriously, keeping the stakes low and the
twists plausible. Far from a beside-the-point MacGuffin, the very
presence of mystery suggests a transformative way of taking in the
world. In other words, it’s an integral part of Doug’s rite of passage
as he goes from looking inward to looking out, seeing new realms of
possibility in the people and places around him. <br />

<strong>House Of Pleasures</strong> <br />
<em>Directed By Bertrand Bonello </em> <br />
The French term for brothel is “maison close” — literally closed house —
and Bertrand Bonello’s “House of Pleasures,” a sumptuous drama about
the lives of courtesans in fin de siècle Paris, takes this expression at
face value by unfolding almost entirely within the upholstered walls of
an upscale bordello called L’Apollonide. <br />
Despite its opium-haze ambience and luxuriant imagery — the gifted
cinematographer is Josée Deshaies, Mr. Bonello’s wife — the film remains
clear-eyed about the situation of its characters, indentured servants
who incur mounting debts to a generally sympathetic madam (Noémie
Lvovsky). They may share a sisterly camaraderie, and some have escaped
crueler fates, but for these women the threat of violence and disease is
ever present — and only getting worse. <br />
The act of savagery that opens and haunts the movie, perpetrated against
the prostitute the others call “the Jewess” (Alice Barnole ), amounts
to the original sin of the 20th century. Mr. Bonello situates his film
at a precise moment in time: what two title cards describe as “the
twilight of the 19th century” and “the dawn of the 20th century.” The
patrons of L’Apollonide casually invoke the scandals and fads of the
day: the Dreyfus Affair, H. G. Wells’s <a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/312948/War-of-the-Worlds/overview">“War of the Worlds,”</a> the brand-new Paris Métro. <br />
But time is always in complicated, dreamlike flux in “House of
Pleasures,” which circles back and forward and sometimes folds in on
itself. A period film reflects not only the time in which it is set but
also the historical understanding of the time in which it is made, and
Mr. Bonello closes the gap between then and now with, among other
devices, anachronistic soundtrack selections: vintage Atlanta R&B
over the credits, <a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/35374/Nights-in-White-Satin/overview">“Nights in White Satin”</a> for the emotional climax. <br />
At once bracing and romantic, this evocation of an irretrievable past
crystallizes a simple truth that has eluded so many other costume
dramas: what we think of as history was, for those who experienced it,
nothing more or less than life. <br />

Icarus Films A scene from the essay film "Nostalgia for the Light." </h6>
</div>
<br />
<strong>Nostalgia For the Light</strong> <br />
<em>Directed By Patricio Guzmán</em> <br />
The Atacama Desert, a cloudless, craggy plateau on the north Chilean
coast, is one of the most arid places on the planet, but it proves to be
fertile ground for the filmmaker Patricio Guzmán and his career-long
project on remembrance as a moral imperative. Since his landmark
three-part documentary, <a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/288088/The-Battle-of-Chile/overview">“The Battle of Chile”</a>
(1978), Mr. Guzmán has been a steadfast chronicler of the occluded
horrors of the Augusto Pinochet regime, rallying against what he sees as
the convenient amnesia of his still-traumatized country. <br />
His latest essay film, “Nostalgia for the Light,” derives both its
metaphysical and its political force from the associations that it
forges between those who spend their days digging into the barren
Atacama earth and those who spend their nights gazing up at the
crystalline sky. <br />
Its altitude and climate make this edge-of-the-world landscape a rich
repository of history in more ways than one. Astronomers, exploiting the
transparency of the atmosphere, study unthinkably distant
constellations whose light has traveled for eons before reaching us.
Archeologists uncover petroglyphs of millennia-old civilizations and
ruins of 19th-century mines, preserved in the humidity-free air. And,
seeking traces of a more recent but no less shrouded era, women whose
loved ones were executed and supposedly buried in the desert during
Pinochet’s murderous reign comb the pitiless expanse of sand and rock
for human remains. <br />
All these quests, as Mr. Guzmán observes in his ruminative narration,
are attempts to reckon with the past, on vastly different scales. The
wonder of “Nostalgia for the Light” is how it entwines and juxtaposes
these perspectives, shifting telescopically from the immensity of the
universe to the vagaries of human memory, reminding us that the calcium
in the stars is the very material in our bones. Ultimately it’s a movie
that obeys what Mr. Guzmán calls memory’s “gravitational force.” Here,
as in many of his films, the past exerts a pull, but it also illuminates

<strong>Attack The Block</strong> <br />
<em>Directed By Joe Cornish</em> <br />
The council estate — as the housing project is called in Britain — has
always loomed large in British cinema, a brutalist emblem of
working-class life in any number of kitchen-sink dramas. This last year
alone it served as a backdrop in movies as different as “Tyrannosaur” (a
Gothic tragedy), “The Arbor” (a documentary) and <a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/gst/movies/titlelist.html?v_idlist=116211;455231;153899;53748;161790&inline=nyt_ttl">“Weekend”</a> (a gay romance). <br />
But this setting has perhaps never been reimagined with the nerve and
verve of Joe Cornish’s feature directing debut, “Attack the Block.” Here
an imposing but run-down South London tower block — “the endz,” in the
parlance of the local teenagers — comes under siege by furry aliens with
glow-in-the-dark fangs. “Attack the Block” invites comparisons with
another 2011 kids-versus-aliens romp, J. J. Abrams’s Steven Spielberg
homage, “Super 8.” But this brisk, scrappy action-adventure owes much
less to Mr. Spielberg’s nostalgic child’s-eye view (Mr. Cornish, as it
happens, was a writer of Mr. Spielberg’s “Adventures of Tintin”) than to
filmmakers like Joe Dante and John Carpenter, who spike their B-movie
thrills with tongue-in-cheek subversions and offhand social commentary.
<br />
Mr. Cornish complicates viewer sympathies by opening with a mugging. A
few teenage hooligans, black and mixed race, hold up a young white woman
at knifepoint. These thugs turn out to be the film’s heroes (their
brooding leader, Moses, is played by John Boyega , above in foreground,
surely a future star), and their incensed victim is forced into an
uneasy alliance with them when an interspecies turf war breaks out.
<br />
It’s too glib to suggest, as some have, that this picture of turmoil in
multicultural Britain presaged last summer’s London riots. But while
“Attack the Block” never strains for relevance, it shows a keen
awareness of its milieu: how race, class and gender govern life in these
parts. The way the kids respond to the extraterrestrial threat — with
self-sufficient bravado — has everything to do with what they’ve learned
to expect. “Feels like just another day in the endz,” one of them says.
The secret weapon of this alien-invasion movie is not special effects
but social reality. <br />

Cinema Tropical.Mariano Llinás in "Historias Extraordinarias." </h6>
<br />
<strong>Historias Extraordinarias (Extraordinary Stories)</strong> <br />
<em>Directed By Mariano Llinás</em> <br />
The most salient thing about the addictive, preposterously ambitious
Argentinian film “Historias Extraordinarias” (“Extraordinary Stories”)
is that it runs more than four hours: a thicket of stories within
stories that follow three main characters over 18 chapters and dozens of
subplots involving scores of secondary figures, locations on two
continents, multiple cross-pollinated genres, telenovela-ready
cliffhangers and a live lion. The second most salient thing is that this
elaborate superproduction is proudly homemade: written and directed by
Mariano Llinás, right, who also co-starred and composed the de facto
theme song, all for the grand sum of $50,000. <br />
The marathon duration is crucial for a movie about the Scheherazade-like
seduction of an endlessly unfolding tale. And the microscopic budget
helps demonstrate Mr. Llinás’s evident belief that ingenious
storytelling is often economical, combining minimum information with
maximum insinuation.(Completed in 2008 and the subject of a cult
following at home — it played for more than a year at a Buenos Aires
cinémathèque — the movie received a belated New York run last spring.)
<br />
Scenes with barely any dialogue are blanketed in a conspiratorial
voice-over that sometimes wryly anticipates the action (“This is what’s
going to happen”) and sometimes subtly undermines it. The three main
characters, known only as X, Z and H, never meet, but their
circumstances come to mirror one another. One suddenly goes from witness
to perpetrator of a crime he doesn’t understand; another is a
bureaucrat piecing together the secret life of his dead predecessor; the
third gets a job photographing riverside stone markers that someone
else seems bent on destroying. <br />
All three, given the task of making narrative sense of situations that
lack obvious meaning, are effectively acting out an allegory on the uses
and abuses of fiction. Drawing on Argentina’s rich literary heritage —
the forking paths of Borges, the hopscotch patterns of Julio Cortázar —
Mr. Llinás pulls off the rarest of cinematic feats. “Historias
Extraordinarias” is a movie that instills in its characters and viewers
alike a deep hunger for stories. <br />

nuestros familiares no salgan lastimados, violados, mutilados,
sucediendo.
</div>
<div align="center">
<b>CONSEJOS:</b></div>
<ul><div align="justify">
<br />
<li>1. <b>Se tolerante</b>.
10 y VALORA TU VIDA. </li>
<br />
<br />
<li>2. <b>Se cuidadoso</b>. Frecuentar centros comerciales, bares,
</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>3.
</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>4.
</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>5.
</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>6. <b>Se inteligente.
</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>7.
</li>
<br />
<br />
</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>9.
<br />
<br />
!!!. </li>
<br />
<br />
<li>11.
casa. </li>
<br />
<br />
<li>12.
No compres nada
</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>13.
</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>14.

<br />
History often emerges only in retrospect. Events become
significant only when looked back on. No one could have known that when a
Tunisian fruit vendor set himself on fire in a public square in a town
barely on a map, he would spark protests that would bring down dictators
in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya and rattle regimes in Syria, Yemen and
Bahrain. Or that that spirit of dissent would spur Mexicans to rise up
against the terror of drug cartels, Greeks to march against
unaccountable leaders, Americans to occupy public spaces to protest
income inequality, and Russians to marshal themselves against a corrupt
autocracy.Protests have now occurred in countries whose populations
total at least 3 billion people, and the word protest has appeared in
newspapers and online exponentially more this past year than at any
other time in history.
<br />
Is there a global tipping point for frustration? Everywhere, it seems,
people said they'd had enough. They dissented; they demanded; they did
not despair, even when the answers came back in a cloud of tear gas or a
hail of bullets. They literally embodied the idea that individual
action can bring collective, colossal change. And although it was
understood differently in different places, the idea of democracy was
present in every gathering. The root of the word democracy is demos,
"the people," and the meaning of democracy is "the people rule." And
they did, if not at the ballot box, then in the streets. America is a
nation conceived in protest, and protest is in some ways the source code
for democracy — and evidence of the lack of it.
<br />
The protests have marked the rise of a new generation. In Egypt 60% of
the population is under the age of 25. Technology mattered, but this was
not a technological revolution. Social networks did not cause these
movements, but they kept them alive and connected. Technology allowed us
to watch, and it spread the virus of protest, but this was not a wired
revolution; it was a human one, of hearts and minds, the oldest
technology of all.
<br />
Everywhere this year, people have complained about the failure of
traditional leadership and the fecklessness of institutions. Politicians
cannot look beyond the next election, and they refuse to make hard
choices. That's one reason we did not select an individual this year.
But leadership has come from the bottom of the pyramid, not the top. For
capturing and highlighting a global sense of restless promise, for
upending governments and conventional wisdom, for combining the oldest
of techniques with the newest of technologies to shine a light on human
dignity and, finally, for steering the planet on a more democratic
though sometimes more dangerous path for the 21st century, the Protester
is TIME's 2011 Person of the Year.<br />

<blockquote>
<div align="center">

<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><br />Diciembre 18, 2011.</span>
<span style="font-size: small;"> </span>
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Remitido por <a href="mailto:jagiraldoabo@hotmail.com">Jorge A. Giraldo</a></span> <br /><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Estos cambios serán buenos o malos... dependiendo en
</i></span></span>
</div>
<div align="center">
<br /><img alt="" border="0" height="238" src="http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/vicarago/gayadas2010/03skype190.jpg" width="190" /><br />
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Comic Sans MS; font-size: x-small;">
<ul>
<li>1.
<br />
<li>2.
<br />
<li>3.
<br />
<li>4.
</li>
<br />
<li>5.
<br />
<li>6.
Before the Music Dies")</li>
<br />
<br />
<li>8.
</li>
<br />
<li>9.
</li>
</ul>

called 'African Mango' is quickly becoming America's hottest new way to lose
weight.</span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="color: black; font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">And much to the chagrin of the
nation's <strong>$40 billion-dollar</strong> diet industry, which sells

waistline.</span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="color: black; font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Indeed, interest in the use of
African Mango extract (<em>irvingia gabonensis</em>) as a safe, effective and
<em>inexpensive</em> weight loss alternative surged after <strong>Dr. Mehmet

it helped her lose 7 pounds in less than a month <em>without</em> making any

<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Beyond the

<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="color: black;">The

refer to as <em>Dikka nuts</em>.<span style="font-size: 8pt;">5</span></span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">For

<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><strong>David Jeffery</strong>, a 36-year-old journalist from

<span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Beware of "Watered

<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">With the recent publicity and
fanfare surrounding African Mango, it's no surprise that sites are popping up all
over the Internet claiming to offer African Mango at bargain-basement
prices.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">However, desperate slimmers should be aware of African Mango
products that use "proprietary blends" and don't list the specific amount of the
active ingredient (irvingia) contained in each capsule. Experts warn that it's a
well-known ploy that some manufacturers sell watered down versions of products that
contain insignificant amounts of the active ingredient.<span style="font-size: 8pt;">6</span></span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Also don't be duped by products which also contain all kinds of
other herbal ingredients that have not been tested scientifically, because these

himself from powerful movie critic to powerful <em>everything</em> critic. And
just as he lost his voice in person, he gained one online, with both sharp
longform writing on his blog and a Twitter following of more than half a million
that retweets the hell out of his 140 character missives. For example,
@BPGlobalPR, the fake twitter account that skewered the company's failures in
the Gulf, was one of the biggest Internet sensations of 2010. Yet you may never
have heard of it <a href="http://gawker.us1.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=251e609e1dba3888b86c21cc8&id=f46e65de3b&e=d30ac475b8" style="color: #dc870e;">had

</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>
</p>

The Doris Day Show'</b>,

<br />
<br />

2004.<br />
